I thought I was writing my story.
As I wrote, I began to see the structure behind it.

START OVER Series II book cover

A chapter became an inquiry.

In a few weeks, Book 3 of Series 2 of START OVER will be published — and I am one of its co-authors.

My chapter, The Architecture of Survival, began as a story about my life.

About patterns. About survival. About moments when I thought I was free, while old patterns were still shaping what I did.

But something else happened while I was writing.

The chapter became an inquiry into the patterns behind the story.

And that inquiry did not end with the chapter.

START OVER is the book.
The Architecture of Survival is my chapter.
On 30 January, I bring it all together on stage.

Ron.

Why do I do the things I do?

I spent a long time looking for an answer to that question.

Not as a theory.
I wanted to understand it.

I am a father of two daughters and now a grandfather. I have spent twenty years building my sports business. I have worked, run a business, trained people, and at the same time struggled with addiction for years.

From the outside, a lot could look as though it was going well, while inside I kept running into the same patterns.

That was true even in the things that matter most to me. I have not always been the father I wanted to be — present in my daughters' lives. My business had — and still has — far more potential than I have realised.

Those are not things I want to write out of my story.

But they are not where my story ends either.

When I was asked to contribute as a co-author to START OVER — Turn Any Loss Into a Sensational Comeback, I began writing The Architecture of Survival.

Writing took me back through my own choices, patterns and ways of surviving. Somewhere in that process, the question changed.

Not only: what happened to me?
But also: what do I do with it now that I can see it?

Right now, things that were separate for a long time are beginning to come together.

That chapter became an inquiry. From that inquiry, NOOR began to take shape. And on 30 January, I will bring it to the stage.

Not because everything is resolved.
Not because I now have all the answers.

But because I no longer want to wait until everything is perfect before I put it out into the world.

What is really
there?

03 · The practice

NOOR

Not: what should I think?
But: what is really here?

From that inquiry, NOOR began to take shape.

With one question as its starting point: What is really there?

We can easily mistake our first thought for what is actually there.

NOOR is a source-conscious practice for learning to distinguish between what you observe, what you think, what you interpret and what influences you.

Not to tell you what to think.

But to investigate what happens before you choose, react or explain.
